Female and woman do not automatically correlate. This is useful to remember. I am bisexual (for the sake of expediency. I have issues with the binary 'bisexual' reinforces, so I'm generally more likely to use pansexual or simply queer). I am polyamorous. Poly and bisexual/pansexual do not automatically correlate. This is also useful to remember. I am an Asian and white Australian (of Chinese, English, and Scottish ancestry). I am a feminist. If you think that means I hate men, you really need to meet more feminists, because you're sorely mistaken. I am a human being. I laugh and cry and go shopping and sleep and pay my bills. Just. Like. You. I lived the first 18-odd years of my life in Sydney. By that point, I'd had more than enough of the town and left for the sunnier, warmer (and cheaper) climate of Brisbane. Whilst there, I completed my Bachelor of Arts (with Distinction), majoring in Applied Ethics, Sociology, and Politics. I have aspirations towards academia, but due to unforeseen circumstances that can be summarised as a Vice-Chancellor on a power-trip in a national political climate that is antagonistic towards the very foundations of university education, I decided I needed a break from academia before I seek out a more suitable university. I'm in a happy and stable poly relationship, which works just fine for us, thanks very much. I am in a relationship with a man, so there is a considerable amount of trading-on-straight-privilege. I acknowledge that, and do what I can to work against that privilege. My partner moved to Canberra in January 2006, and I left Brisbane for the cooler climate of Canberra in August 2007. I currently work as a Case Manager in Workers' Compensation Claims, and may occasionally vent about work. Academically, I'm interested in feminism, race theory and queer theory, and am particularly interested in how related movements in these areas operate in online environments and utilise related Web 2.0 tools such as blogging and social networking. I'm a fannish sort, in my own way, and readers should consider themselves warned that I'm rather aware of the political/social flaws of the media I'm fannish about, and will talk about them quite a bit. Pretty much all media is flawed, and I acknowledge and talk about the flaws because I love the media, not because I hate it. | |||||||||
